Corey’s Emergency Contact Protocol

Fool Me Once

Corey Rudzinski’s Emergency Contact Protocol is a discreet, conditional system for contact between Corey and Maya Stern. It avoids burner phones, reserves communication for emergencies, and turns a call from Leather and Lace into a signal to meet. Its strict limits reflect Corey’s warning that he will disappear if he feels uneasy—and Maya’s decision to keep the arrangement intact by saying nothing about their meeting to Shane.

Rules and Safeguards

Corey forbids burner phones and says they should communicate only in an emergency. If Maya needs him, she is to call Leather and Lace and ask for Lulu. The club thus serves as an intermediary rather than a direct phone channel, with Lulu as the named point of contact.

The arrangement has a firm personal limit: Corey says that even slight unease would make him leave, probably for good. Maya considers telling Shane that she has met Corey, but anticipates anger and recognizes that disclosure could jeopardize the relationship. She chooses silence because she cannot risk Corey disappearing.

The Signal in Use

The protocol also defines how Corey can request a meeting. When the caller ID reads Leather and Lace, Maya understands that Corey has called; if he calls and hangs up, that is the agreed signal that he wants to meet. The missed call communicates the request without a conversation.

Maya follows the signal by driving to the club’s lot. At the entrance, the bouncer leans into her car window and says he is glad she got the job. Maya hopes he is participating in the cover and does not genuinely believe she is a stripper. The exchange shows the club functioning not only as a contact point but as cover for a meeting whose real purpose is concealed.
